Sustainable Detox: Introduction
Hi! I’m Molly, a businesswoman and new mom that wanted to feel less helpless about climate change. When I dove headfirst into the research, I was quickly overwhelmed by the large amount of dense, depressing information out there. At the same time, I knew if I was having issues understanding everything, then others must be too, so I began organizing the information into a more digestible format to help me figure out what I can personally do to help the cause. Thus, my “sustainable detox” was born.
Just like with a food or juice detox that removes toxins from your body, this “sustainable detox” frees your life of things causing harm to the planet, specifically focusing on individual greenhouse gas emissions, which are in need of urgent reduction (if you’re unsure why we need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions - read this!) The detox helps define what we have the power to do and explains why it's important to do so. Our actions and abilities often seem small, but changing our habits in favor of the environment is powerful! It signals to companies that we want better products, it shows our legislators that we want better policies, and it diminishes our feelings of hopelessness. As Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it's the only thing that ever has."
I did not create the detox for anyone to be “perfect,” in fact, it is nearly impossible to do so, but I created it to know what we can strive for even if we are not quite there yet. There was not one person who caused climate change, and there is not one person or solution that’s going to get us out of it. It is going to take many people with many actions to get us where we need to be, just doing the best that we can.
This detox gives us a guide as an individual and breaks down each area of our life with actions we can take to show the world that we care. The six detox categories are transportation, housing, food, things, money, and actions. I walk through each of these categories with a blog post that explains
The impact our choices have on the environment
Actions for improvement
Money you could save
What' I have personally done to make changes

If a blog is not your thing, download the ebook (form below), follow the posteritycollective Instagram account, or check out the Posterity Collective Pinterest board that summarizes the posts through infographics!
Thanks for joining in on the fun! It’ll be exciting and thrilling because our collective, small actions can create beautiful change for our posterity!
